Training and Developmental Workshops
USA Gymnastics Courses -
- Safety Certification Courses:
A requirement for all USAG Professional Members, this 4 to 5 hour class includes an
"open-book" test. Safety Manual provided with the class, fee of $100 for new
non-Pro or Instructor members, $50 for current Instructor or Pro members who are not
certified or for a Pro member who has expired for more than 30 days (free renewal for Pro
members within 30 days of expiration) is due to USA Gymnastics. No other charge for this
course but minimum of 11 participants and pre-registration is required.
- Kinder Accreditation for Teachers
(KAT) Courses:
A Kinder Accreditation for Teachers (or KAT)
Workshop consists of eight enlightening hours of preschool teacher education. The workshop
covers philosophy, understanding the preschool age child, how to be an effective teacher,
safety considerations, class management, lesson plan development KAT Manual with a
"closed-book" test at the end provided with the class. Fee of $140 for members,
$160 for non-members is due to USA Gymnastics no later than 5 working days before the
course. No other charge for this course but pre-registration is required.
- Professional Development Program
(PDP) I Video Clinics:
One of the three components required for PDP I certification, this three to
four hour clinic is conducted with video presentation and discussion based on Rookie
Coaches Guide. A workbook is provided. No test is required; the coach completes the
application form which is signed by the instructor. $15 fee per participant is due and
payable to the clinician prior to the course, minimum of 11 participants.
- Professional Development Program
(PDP) II ASEP Classes:
One of the five components required for PDP II
certification, this eight hour course focuses on information about basic coaching
principles. Upon successful completion of the course, coaches should provide USA
Gymnastics with a photocopy of their ASEP certificate in order to be entered into the USAG
database. ASEP Coaching Principles Book "Successful Coaching" is included
in the class (see below for details of the course).
American Sport Education Program
Classes -
- Coaching Principles Courses:
The Coaching Principles Course
was designed to address the essential elements of successful coaching-from proven coaching
techniques to effective risk management. Excellent for both new and experienced coaches,
this course combines the practical expertise of veteran coaches with the new, important
findings of sport scientists. During this course coaches will learn how to keep winning in
perspective; develop a functional coaching philosophy;
communicate with and motivate their athletes; teach sport skills effectively; develop a
sound physical training program; guide athletes to better nutrition; reduce injuries by managing risks better; and manage equipment,
facilities, schedules, and other team logistics. The
Coaching Principles Course consists of a seven hour clinic, self-study of the course text
"Successful Coaching", and
passing the take-home, open book test with a score of 80 percent or higher. A course fee
of $145 plus $35 per participant is due to the clinician prior to the course, minimum of
six participants required.
- Parenting A Young Athlete Seminar:
This course is designed to
turn problem parents into valuable allies and get parents off your back and on your side!
In this one to two hour meeting, parents learn what their responsibilities are and how to
work with coaches to provide safe, enjoyable, and beneficial sport experiences for their
children. Parents also learn why children play sports, a healthy perspective on
participation and winning, how to help children set realistic performance goals, how to
enhance their child's self-esteem, how to communicate with the coach, and what behavioral
guidelines to follow when attending contests. A course fee of $145 is due to the clinician
prior to the course, minimum of six participants required.
- SportParent Seminar for Coaches and
Directors:
This class provides youth
sport directors and coaches with a practical and effective way to educate parents about
their children's (aged 6-14) participation in sports. In a one-hour meeting, coaches/directors can help parents learn what their responsibilities are
and how to work with coaches to provide safe, enjoyable, and beneficial sport experiences
for their children. Parents also learn why children play sports, a healthy perspective on
participation and winning, how to help children set realistic performance goals, how to
enhance their child's self-esteem, how to communicate with the coach, and what behavioral
guidelines to follow when attending contests. A course fee of $145 plus $49 for video and
materials (that you keep) is due to the clinician prior to the course, minimum of six
participants required.
American Red Cross Training

Individual Classes of 4 (adult CPR) or 5 hours (infant/child CPR) available

Sport Safety Training provides coaches with the basic first aid
skills and knowledge needed to care for athletic injuries. This seven hour course features
video and practical instruction - plus a handy reference book to use and keep with you
during competition and practices. Sports-related injury prevention; first aid care; adult
CPR; and child CPR is included Sport Specific First Aid class includes 96 page manual and
192 page spiral bound pocket handbook. A course fee of $145 plus $35 per participant
is due to the clinician prior to the course, minimum of six participants required.
