coaches with the new, important findings of sport scientists. During this
course coaches will learn how to
- keep winning in perspective;
- develop a functional coaching philosophy;
- communicate with and motivate their athletes;
- teach sport skills effectively;
- develop a sound physical training program;
- guide athletes to better nutrition;
- reduce injuries by managing risks better;
- and manage equipment, facilities, schedules, and
other team logistics.
The Coaching Principles Course consists of a seven to
eight-hour clinic, a self-study of the course text Successful Coaching, and
passing the take-home, open book test with a score of 80 percent or higher. A
course fee of $295 plus $45 per participant is due to the clinician prior to
the course, minimum of six participants required.
PDP Level II Accreditation
Upon successful completion of all five components, the
coach is entered into the USA Gymnastics coaching database and receives a
certificate acknowledging successful completion of all requirements for PDP
Level II Accreditation.
Requirements
PDP Level I Accreditation
- PDP Level I Accreditation is a prerequisite for PDP
Level II Accreditation.
USA Gymnastics Professional Membership
Safety Certification
- USA Gymnastics Safety Certification courses are
offered nationwide. Course
schedules
are published in Technique magazine and can be requested from the
National Office.
ASEP Coaching Principles Course
- This eight-hour course focuses on information about
basic coaching principles. Coaches should provide USA Gymnastics with a
photocopy of their ASEP certificate in order to be entered into the USAG
database.
Experience Verification Form
- Basic information regarding previous and current
coaching experience is obtained through a questionnaire. This requires
verification by current or past employers or supervisors and a listing of at
least three professional references.
NOTE: Attaining Level II Accreditation is a
one-time effort. In order to maintain "active" vs.
"inactive" status, the coach must maintain those components which
have renewal requirements (membership, safety certification).
