Since more than 60 percent of sport injuries occur
during practice, coaches need to know how to respond to injuries and provide
appropriate first aid. The Gym.Net / Red Cross Sport First Aid and CPR Course
was created to teach school and club sport coaches how to be safe, capable,
and effective first responders to injured athletes. During this course,
coaches learn to develop a plan for emergency procedures, reduce the number of
avoidable injuries, recognize serious and minor injuries; provide proper,
immediate care for common sports injuries, and respond to life-threatening
emergencies. Our purpose is to train individuals to overcome any reluctance to act in
emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory
or cardiac emergencies in adults. There are no pre-requisites but many options
and components to choose from:
Adult and Child CPR/AED Training
The new Adult and Child CPR/AED course combines
instruction in Adult and Child CPR with the use of an automated external defibrillator.
These are the two skills needed to save the life of a sudden cardiac arrest
victim. Adult and Child CPR/AED Training is a 4.5 hour course designed for the lay rescuer
in the Workplace.
The
American Red Cross Workplace Training Program provides the latest in
lifesaving and safety instruction. Build the program that works for your
business using our modular curriculum. Choose one of our core courses, Standard
First Aid or Adult and Child
CPR/Automated External Defibrillation (AED). Then add a supplemental
module such as Ergonomics, Blood Borne Pathogens or Slips,
Trips, and Falls.
Standard First Aid Our American Red Cross
Standard First Aid training complements adult learning styles with
hands-on practice and real-life scenarios. Our take-away materials help
employees to retain skills and serve as reference tools in an emergency.
This comprehensive course meets training guidelines established by the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration. Topics covered include:
- How to determine the safe response to an emergency situation
- Recognizing and caring for life-threatening emergencies in adults,
such as respiratory and cardiac problems and choking
- Treating injuries including severe cuts and burns, sprains and
strains
- Treating sudden illnesses such as poisonings, bites, and stings
- Recognizing and treating heat and cold emergencies, such as heat
stroke and hypothermia
- Automated External Defibrillation (AED) information
- Workplace emergency planning
Ergonomics Ergonomics simply means improving
the fit between your body and an activity. The result is increased comfort
and efficiency. Musculoskeletal disorders, known as MSDs, are injuries
often associated with repetitive strain or damage to muscles, tendons,
nerves, and joints. By applying ergonomic principles, you may reduce your
risk for MSDs and make any task less taxing on your body.
This one-hour module will help you to:
- Understand and apply ergonomic principles
- Identify and reduce your risk for MSDs
- Perform exercises to help reduce the risk of MSDs
Blood Borne Pathogens This one-hour module will help you to
understand how to protect yourself against:
Slips, Trips, and Falls Slips, trips, and falls
are among the leading causes of injuries in the workplace. They affect
people from all occupations because anyone can be at risk for three
reasons: lack of safety awareness, unsafe conditions, and unsafe
behaviors. This one-hour module will help you to:
- Understand how safety awareness can reduce your risk of slips,
trips, or falls
- Identify, report, and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors
- Learn tips for good balance
- Develop a prevention plan
